Q: What is death registration?
Ans: Death registration is the name of the deceased, date of death, place of death, gender, name of father or mother or husband or wife written in the register by the designated registrar and death certificate is issued.

Q: What is the use of death registration?
Answer: Death registration is required for distribution of property of deceased person, receipt of family pension etc. Moreover, if the death is not registered, it will not be possible to determine the actual population of the country. To register a death, the deceased must have a birth registration. If birth registration is not done, death registration has to be done after completion of birth registration.
Q: Death registration application process?
Ans: In the prescribed application form for death registration (whether printed or handwritten) you have to apply to the registrar with the following documents or attestations.
- Certification of public or private health workers, or
- Death certificate issued by the concerned medical institution or physician, or
- Attested copy of the autopsy report of the deceased, or
- Attested copy of the burial or funeral receipt given by the caretaker of the concerned cemetery or crematorium, or
- Death certificate issued by the concerned member of the Union Parishad or the concerned councilor of the municipality / city corporation, or
- Attested copy of any other document of death as deemed necessary by the Registrar.
Answer: The son or daughter or guardian of the deceased will be responsible for providing information about the death to the registrar within 30 days of death.
In addition, the following persons may send information to the Registrar for registration of death of any person:
- Members of the Union Council, and Secretary;
- Village police;
- City corporation or municipal councilor;
- Health workers and family welfare workers employed in union parishads, municipalities, city corporations or cantonment areas;
- Field workers of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) engaged in the health and family welfare sector;
- In case of death in any government or private hospital or clinic or maternity hospital or any other institution, the medical officer in charge of it or the doctor or any authorized officer;
- Caretaker of any cemetery or cremation ground;
- Any other officer or employee employed by the Registrar;
- In the case of death in prison, the prison superintendent or the person authorized by the district or so;
- Officer-in-charge of the concerned police station in case of an unidentified dead person lying in a public place; And
